statement on popurls content

i’ve received a couple of feedback mails lately that criticized certain bias regarding headlines on the ongoing US presidential campaign so i’d like to straighten a few things out:
  • popurls is a meta-aggregator, thus it aggregates other sites but does not produce original content.
  • there is no unbiased algorithm; even with google news.
  • if you don’t agree with digg’s, reddit’s or any other content, blame their community or move the respective news block to the bottom of the page ;)
  • the popular today section on top is based on an algorithm that measures popularity across other sites but also factors the user’s reading habits in; it’s a democratic ranking and not edited manually. again: if you don’t like the headline, don’t read the full story.
  • popurls is produced in austria, which is even further away from washington than alaska. in fact, we have our own political headaches.
