changes 08.02 – last.fm and mixx

some further news for february:
  • instead of odeo you can now view popular tracks from last.fm.
    the ranking behind it is based on the number of listeners from today and merged from the largest countries all over the world. additionally every artist is only listed with the most popular track to keep the charts diversified. last.fm does not offer this kind of data so it’s quite unique.
  • mixx is now in the place of propeller due to its increasing popularity

some of you might have noticed a change in how popurls displays all the outgoing links. while that’s a little disadvantage if you want to know the exact target url (the full domain is still visible) there are several motivations for this move:
  • the overall loading speed is snappier as the amount of rendered text and javascript is reduced
  • it allows popurls.tv to include the info from mobile users or clients like the playstation
  • posting bots like the one on twitter or jaiku will feature more accurate and popular stories
  • very soon, users who are signed in with openid will have new features like “recommended” stories
again, this change is necessary to build new features upon it and is already widely used on services like feedburner.
